The dial seems a little stiff at times but I don't know if I am doing something wrong. ![]() I have the combination but I am unable to open it. Herring-Hall-Marvin Safe Co Posted by Rebecca on Januat 15:48:57: There are three massive deadbolts that are extending and keeping the door from getting anywhere near closed.Herring-Hall-Marvin Safe Co Follow Ups | Start New Thread | Public Forum | All Forums That would require a plasma torch and would ruin the safe. I imagine if it's open you can just close it regardless of if you know the combination or not. This is not similar to my experiences with a master combination padlock. I have read that this safe may have a 4 number combination and that you have to turn it many times in each direction. Do you need the combination? I would like to use the safe.ĭo traditional safes not work the way one would expect? I do not know. I guess I don't see the issue, you said it's locked open. You can learn the basics of how it's done (and lots of other potentially helpful information) from Matt Blaze's ![]() Manipulation is what you see delicate safecrackers in the movies doing, although it generally doesn't involve stethoscopes or the like. Being that it's such an old safe, it's probably quite vulnerable to manipulation. You can then align the notches in the wheels to allow the fence to drop in and unlock. If there is an opening into the lock's case at all, you may be able to use a pen light, boroscope or otoscope to look inside and see the state of the wheels as you move the dial. The one potential snag in that plan is in the case that described, where the lock may have relockers that trip if the back plate is removed. Generally, if you can access the back of the lock, you can open it as described. If you pay attention to the number dial, the number that is lined up with the indicator when dialing each notch is that portion of the combo. Or the other way around, right-left-right). So, find the notches, line them up under the bar (you have to dial the safe as if you were actually opening it turn the dial left until the first one is in place, right until the second one is in place, and right until the third one is in place. Each cam has an obvious notch when all 3 are lined up in the same place a bar will fall down into the row of notches and the safe can be opened. If you can get the plate off and see the cams (plates with dents in them behind the dial), you should be able to manipulate the dial to get it back open. Would I be able to see enough of the inner workings to open the lock by removing that panel, or is that only the first step of 20 before I get it understood or set to a new combination? Also, does anyone know much about these particular safes? How many numbers are in the combination, how many turns between each number, anything like that? I can host some pics later on when I get a chance, but it is identical in every way to this one.Īnyone have any ideas as to where to start? The dial turns freely, the hinges work, It's just locked open. ![]() The brass plate on the inside of the door looks like it will come off easily enough. Calling a locksmith is fine, but he'd have to come on site as I am not going to be able to lift it again without damaging an already borrowed lift truck. At least I was only 1/2 the dumb ass I could have been, it locked open.īut now I am left wondering what my next steps are. I'm sure you all know what happened next, it locked. This unwieldy bastard was open when I came across it and like a dumb ass, I yanked the crank.
